Belgium's New Prince Barred From Throne Succession

Clément Vandenkerckhove, recognized son of Prince Laurent, now holds the title Prince of Belgium — but not a place in the line of succession. Belgium's constitution restricts succession to descendants of the reigning monarch and excludes children born outside marriage. The title grants name and rank; constitutional standing remains off-limits.
