El Obeid's Population Quadruples to 3.4 Million as RSF Drone Strikes Collapse Power, Water, and Medical Services

El Obeid, North Kordofan's capital, has swelled from 750,000 to an estimated 3.4 million as civilians flee fighting across Sudan. RSF drone strikes on the city's main power transformer have knocked out electricity needed to pump water, run hospitals, and maintain phone lines, according to the IOM. WFP has warned El Obeid is becoming the new epicentre of Sudan's displacement and hunger crisis. The war has killed an estimated 59,000 and displaced 8.6 million internally since April 2023.
