Zambia's Opposition Leader to Challenge Presidential Election Result in Court

Zambian opposition leader Brian Mundubile said he will challenge the August 13 presidential election result in court, alleging voting fraud. The electoral commission declared incumbent Hakainde Hichilema the winner with about 60 percent of votes against Mundubile's 38 percent, handing Hichilema a second term. Mundubile's campaign documented "serious irregularities, inconsistencies and circumstances" in the conduct, counting, transmission, and declaration of results. The Constitutional Court now faces a tight deadline, with Hichilema's swearing-in due by August 24.
