Newham council silent on safety changes more than two years after autistic boy's fall from tower-block flat

Five-year-old Aalim Ahmed fell from a 15th-floor kitchen window in a Newham council temporary housing flat in May 2024. At inquest, a council property manager said "more restricted features could have been installed." Newham has not confirmed any interim safety measures across its housing stock and declines comment until the inquest concludes on 21 August 2026.
