20 Tons of Squid Spill Across Rhode Island Highway After Tractor-Trailer Overturns

A tractor-trailer carrying roughly 45,000 pounds of raw squid overturned on Pt. Judith Road in Narragansett, Rhode Island, on Sunday morning, spilling more than 20 tons of decaying cephalopods across all lanes. The road stayed closed from about 9:30 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. as crews scraped remains from the asphalt in 80°F heat. The driver and passenger were uninjured; police cited the driver for failure to secure a load.
