Almodóvar Left Off Spain's 2027 Oscar Shortlist

Spain's Film Academy named three finalists for its 2027 Oscar international feature submission on 3 September 2026, and Pedro Almodóvar's Cannes competition entry "Bitter Christmas" is not among them. The shortlist: Sorogoyen's "The Beloved" (Javier Bardem), Los Javis' "The Black Ball" (Cannes Best Director, Netflix-backed), and Ruiz de Azúa's "Sundays" (San Sebastián Golden Shell, Goya sweep).
