Russian Strike Damages Kyiv Cathedral Recently Reclaimed From Moscow's Church

A June 2026 Russian air attack on Kyiv killed 11 and set fire to the Dormition Cathedral at the UNESCO-listed Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Ukraine reclaimed this thousand-year-old monastery from the Moscow-linked Orthodox church amid the war, and it had only recently held its first Ukrainian-language Christmas services. Officials estimate restoration could take two years.
