Russian Strike Damages Lavra Cathedral Ukraine Reclaimed From Moscow's Church

A June 2026 Russian airstrike on Kyiv killed 11 and set fire to the Dormition Cathedral, located within the UNESCO-listed Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Ukraine had recently reclaimed this thousand-year-old monastery from the Moscow-linked Orthodox church and held its first Ukrainian-language Christmas services there. Officials estimate restoration could take two years.
