Automattic Launches WordPress.com Education with Free Student Sites and Developer Tooling

At WordCamp US on August 17, 2026, Automattic launched WordPress.com Education, giving each student a full WordPress.com site with a free .blog or .art domain, plug-in support, 6 GB storage, and developer tools including SFTP/SSH, phpMyAdmin, and staging sites — no credit card required for the first year. A pilot reached 5,000 students across 27 countries.
