Met Police Plan Permanent Facial Recognition Cameras on Oxford Street

The Metropolitan Police plan to install fixed live facial recognition cameras on Oxford Street and across the West End, embedded in street furniture like lamp-posts. The cameras would scan passersby against a watchlist of wanted suspects continuously — a shift from prior mobile van-based trials. The rollout is coordinated with Oxford Street's pedestrianisation.
