Rights Groups Sue Trump Administration Over ICC Sanctions

Four US rights groups — Human Rights Watch, the American Friends Service Committee, the Centre for Constitutional Rights, and the Open Society Institute — sued the Trump administration on August 11, 2026. They argue sanctions targeting the ICC and those cooperating with it violate First Amendment speech and due process rights. The administration's February 2025 executive order cited ICC warrants for Netanyahu and an Afghanistan probe involving US personnel. Secretary of State Rubio pledged in July to "disable" the court. No US citizen has faced ICC prosecution.
