Victoria Shifts to Proactive Child Protection Oversight Across 140 Organisations
Victoria's Commission for Children and Young People launched compliance monitoring across 140 organisations in 2024, marking a shift from reactive investigation toward systemic prevention. The expansion follows a 2019 inquiry that found 35 children known to child protection died by suicide within a year of their last involvement, six of them Aboriginal youth. New powers granted to the Commission in July 2024 now allow direct intervention in child protection cases.
