
Labor conference backs gas tax motions; PM rules one out
At Labor's Adelaide conference on July 24, delegates backed motions to scrap mining fuel subsidies, tighten gambling ad crackdowns, and raise gas export taxes. Albanese flatly ruled out a gas tax — Chalmers had said the same the day before. Ed Husic broke ranks and backed one anyway. The party's left flank is pushing; the leadership isn't budging.
