Lumière Summit declaration puts AI trained on cultural works under UNESCO cultural-diversity treaty

At the first Lumière Summit in Saint-Paul-de-Vence on 7 September 2026, France, South Korea and industry bodies signed the Saint-Paul-de-Vence Declaration on Artificial Intelligence — six principles placing AI systems trained on cultural works within the scope of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on cultural diversity. The declaration opens a pathway within UNESCO for a potential supplementary protocol on creator protections and data transparency. Signatories include the Motion Picture Association, SACEM and Adami.
