Uber Shifts Strategy: Focusing on Package Pickups Rather Than Full Delivery Competition
Uber has started offering doorstep package pickup services in over 4,950 U.S. cities. Rather than trying to compete directly with major shipping companies, Uber is using what it does best: having drivers spread across many neighborhoods. The service works with USPS, UPS, and FedEx—Uber drivers pick up sealed packages from customers and take them to carrier drop-off points instead of handling the full delivery process. At $5 per pickup, Uber is focusing on the "first-mile" segment (the initial pickup phase), where convenience and local availability are most valuable. By partnering with established carriers instead of building its own shipping network, Uber avoids the expensive infrastructure costs while still leveraging its biggest advantage: driver availability in nearly every area.
