Burnham to axe digital ID scheme on first day as PM

Andy Burnham will scrap the government's digital ID scheme on his first day as prime minister, his office said. Burnham replaces Sir Keir Starmer on Monday after meeting the King. The scheme, covering all British adults, was Starmer's flagship policy. Burnham said funds will go instead to bus travel for young people and energy bill cuts.
