
Watchdog Says Home Affairs Failing Safety Duty in Detention Centres
Australia's safety regulator Comcare says Home Affairs is likely breaking its legal duty to protect health and safety — section 19 — across onshore immigration detention. It points to rising violence and drug incidents, including an 18 August Melbourne brawl that sent six detainees to hospital. Canberra has penalised operator Management and Training Corporation, which runs centres through Secure Journeys.
