France School Protests Drew Hundreds of Thousands, Counts Differ

450,000 people protested across France on Oct. 6 over teacher shortages and crowded classrooms, organizers said. The Interior Ministry, which tracks demonstrations for the government, put the total at 266,000, including 56,000 in Paris. The high-school-led movement has reached more than 40 cities, with blockades disrupting hundreds of schools.
