Isaias Shuts Gulf Oil Sites, Puts 14% of U.S. Refining at Risk

Hurricane Isaias has shut Gulf operations and forced evacuations, threatening nearly all U.S. offshore output. About 2.7 million barrels per day — 14% of U.S. refining capacity, the ability to make gasoline — sits in its path, CNN reported Oct. 8. The Hurricane Center on Oct. 9 expects landfall tonight or early Saturday. Prolonged outages could push pump prices higher.
