Why Students Marched Across France on Oct. 6
Hundreds of thousands marched across France on Oct. 6 because schools lack enough teachers and classes are too full, protest organizers said. Organizers counted 450,000 people. The government's Interior Ministry counted 266,000, including 56,000 in Paris. Students in more than 40 cities joined, blocking entrances and disrupting hundreds of schools.
