ACT would ban compulsory karakia in resource consents
ACT says it would stop councils making karakia, a Māori prayer or blessing, a condition of resource consent, the permission to build or develop land. Infrastructure spokesperson Simon Court said it would 'leave spirituality out of infrastructure'. He said planning law should deal with effects that can be identified, measured and tested, not spiritual beliefs decided by councils or judges.
