About 2,000 people, mostly children, were detained during nationwide French high-school protests over crowded classes and teacher shortages, Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said Oct. 2. Education Minister Edouard Geffray reported 170 students and 65 staff wounded; Minister Laurent Nuñez said more than 300 police were injured.
