About 2,000 people, mostly children, were detained — held by police — during high-school protests across France over crowded classrooms and too few teachers, Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin said Oct. 2. Education Minister Edouard Geffray reported 170 students and 65 staff hurt; Minister Laurent Nuñez said over 300 police were hurt.
