FDA Clears First Grow-With-Child Heart Valve

The FDA approved Edwards' Autus Size-Adjustable Valve on Oct. 1, the first implanted heart valve built to expand later. The surgical pulmonary valve, which routes blood to the lungs, is placed at 13 millimeters in young children, then widened to 22 millimeters by balloon catheter, a tube-guided balloon, while continuing to work as they grow.
