North American theatres spent US$2.7 billion on upgrades over two years, Cinema United said in its Cinema Investment report, as reported by Variety on 1 October 2026. Theatres spent US$1.2 billion in the past year on premium experiences, Variety reported. The eight largest domestic circuits, the United States and Canada, spent US$840 million in the past year, Variety reported.
