Pentagon notifying 3.1 million after personnel records breach

Hackers stole personnel records for about 2.8 million living and nearly 300,000 deceased service members and staff, the Pentagon said. The Defense Manpower Data Center, which stores personnel data, was breached through a flaw in file-sharing software between October 2025 and mid-July 2026. The center is now notifying those affected.
