Youth enrolment down to 61 percent for 2026 election

Only 61 percent of eligible 18- to 24-year-olds are enrolled for the 2026 General Election, down from 77 percent at the last election, according to Electoral Commission figures. At a University of Auckland debate, students urged their peers to enrol, saying opting out is not the answer. Enrolment closes 25 October.
