Youth enrolment falls to 61 percent ahead of election

Only 61 percent of eligible 18- to 24-year-olds are enrolled to vote in the 2026 General Election, down from 77 percent at the previous election, according to Electoral Commission figures. Students at a University of Auckland debate urged peers to enrol, saying opting out is not the answer. Voters must enrol no later than 25 October.
