Fewer young people signed up to vote

Only 61 in every 100 people aged 18 to 24 who can vote have signed up for the 2026 election, down from 77 last time, the Electoral Commission says. At a University of Auckland debate, students urged others their age to sign up, saying sitting out is not the answer. You must sign up by 25 October.
