OpenAI Delays New Web-Surfing AI Over Safety Worries

OpenAI will hold back GPT-6.1 Astra, an AI helper designed to surf the web on its own, planned for October in ChatGPT and Codex. Safety chief Saachi Jain said it fell short of company safety standards, with gaps in what it can do, when it asks permission, and how it keeps users informed. The Wall Street Journal reported it first.
