OpenAI shelves GPT-6.1 Astra over safety concerns

OpenAI will not release GPT-6.1 Astra, its autonomous web-browsing system planned for October in ChatGPT and Codex, over safety concerns. Head of safety systems Saachi Jain said it "didn't quite meet the bar of OpenAI's standards," citing scope, authorization and user communication shortfalls. The decision was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
