Microsoft's Surface Pro 11 Switches From Intel to Qualcomm's Snapdragon Chip
Microsoft has released a new Surface Pro that uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors instead of Intel chips—marking the first time in over 10 years that Microsoft has moved away from Intel. The main benefits of this switch are longer battery life and better AI performance. The Snapdragon X includes a specialized AI processor (called a neural processing unit) that can handle 45 TOPS—a measure of how many AI calculations it can do locally on the device without needing the cloud. This qualifies the Surface Pro as a Copilot+ PC, which means it meets Microsoft's requirements for AI-capable computers. The new model also features an optional OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering sharper visuals and smoother scrolling than previous versions.
