Avanti West Coast to Transfer to Public Ownership in March

Avanti West Coast will come under government control in March when its current operating contract expires. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander says the shift is part of a plan to upgrade tracks and stations, reduce delays, and improve trips on London-Manchester and Liverpool routes. Services will transfer directly to the state, not to another private company.
