Avanti West Coast to enter public ownership in March

The UK government will bring Avanti West Coast into public ownership in March when its contract ends. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander says the move is part of a plan to improve infrastructure, cut delays and improve passenger experience on the London-Manchester and Liverpool routes. Services will transfer rather than be re-contracted to a private operator.
