Fewer than half expect fair 2026 midterms as trust slips

Fewer than half of Americans in September 2026 expected the 2026 midterms to be free and fair, survey data released Sept. 17 said. Confidence that votes across the country will be counted as cast fell 5 points since January, when it had already dropped to 60% among both parties.
