Fewer than half expect free and fair 2026 midterms as trust falls

Fewer than half of Americans expected free and fair 2026 midterms in September 2026, according to survey data released Sept. 17. Trust that votes nationwide will be counted as intended fell 5 points since January, when overall trust had already dropped to 60% across parties.
