Fewer than half trust this year's elections will be fair

Fewer than half of Americans in September 2026 expected the 2026 midterms for Congress to be free and fair, a survey released Sept. 17 said. Trust that votes across the country will be counted as voters meant — like getting the score right — fell 5 points since January, when it had already fallen to 60% for both parties.
