Young NSW officer dies in Redfern urgent-response crash

Constable Mia Lay, 20, died instantly when her marked police car struck a tree on Gibbons Street, Redfern, about 1:30am on 25 September 2026. The car was heading north with lights and sirens to a reported vehicle theft in Glebe. Lay, a passenger with 16 months in the force, was killed. Investigators will focus on urgent-duty driving risks.
