Young police officer dies in Redfern car crash

Mia Lay, 20, an NSW police officer, died instantly when her patrol car hit a tree on Gibbons Street, Redfern, about 1:30am 25 September 2026. It was heading north with lights and siren to a reported car theft in Glebe. Lay, a passenger with 16 months' service, was killed. The dangers of rushing, like an ambulance on call, are key.
