U.S. Ban on Canadian Liquor, Dairy and Motorcycles Takes Effect

The U.S. ban on Canadian alcohol, dairy and motorcycles took effect 29 September 2026. Announced 8 September, the prohibition covers nearly C$1bn in liquor — 93% of Canada's liquor exports went to the U.S. in 2025 — plus whey, cheese and about 5,000 motorcycles. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the impact on Canada's economy will be modest.
