Nearly Half of Young Australians Living With Parents

Just under half of Australians aged 18-29 lived with parents in 2024, up from 39% in 2001, according to the HILDA household survey published 23 September 2026. Young men were more likely to remain home, and 36% of those at home were full-time students. Family homes appear to be absorbing pressure from study, jobs and rents, shifting costs to parents.
