Many Young Australians Living With Parents

Just under half of Australians age 18 to 29 lived with parents in 2024, up from 39% in 2001, household study HILDA reported 23 September 2026. Young men were more likely to stay home; 36% of those home studied full-time. Like a safety net, family homes are absorbing pressure from schooling, jobs and rent, shifting costs to parents.
