Tato Architects sinks Mibu house 500mm to add space on backyard plot

Tato Architects in Kobe has sunk the ground floor of its 108-square-metre House in Mibu in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, 500 millimetres below ground, Dezeen reported on 22 September 2026. The first floor overhangs on one side. The moves add living space without taking more land on the backyard plot behind the grandparents' home.
