Iraq Sets June 2027 Deadline to Disarm Iran-Backed Militias

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi pledged to disarm Iran-backed militias by June 2027, in an interview published Sept. 21, 2026. The new date pushes back an earlier September target after months of resistance to placing the groups under state control. Three militia leaders had earlier pledged to disarm.
