Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi pledged to disarm Iran-backed militias by June 2027 in an interview published Sept. 21, 2026. The date moves past an earlier September target and follows months of resistance to bringing the groups under state control. Three militia heads earlier pledged to disarm.
