Chelsea's 8-2 defeat to PSG forced a full club overhaul
Chelsea's 8-2 Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain last season is described inside the club as the turning point that forced a complete overhaul. After finishing 10th in the Premier League, Chelsea appointed Xabi Alonso, moved on over £200m of players, and abandoned their youth-focused model for seasoned veterans like Emiliano Martinez and Jordan Henderson. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali acknowledged the need to "tweak the model."
