Wiley's operating income falls 90% as AI licensing deals thin

Wiley's Q1 fiscal 2027 revenue dipped 3 percent to US$386 million, but operating income collapsed from US$31 million to US$2.9 million. The trade press attributes the gap to fewer AI licensing deals — high-margin sales of access to Wiley's peer-reviewed research corpus to tech companies training language models. Those licences brought in US$14 million for the quarter. Wiley reaffirmed its full-year outlook.
