Double Fine leaves Microsoft, keeps all its IPs

Microsoft has allowed Double Fine to return to full independence, with the studio retaining all its intellectual properties and game catalog, including Psychonauts and Brütal Legend. Founder Tim Schafer confirmed the rights have returned to the studio. Microsoft also provided investment to relaunch Double Fine as a standalone developer. The PS5 release of Keeper on 3 September 2026 is the first title under that independence.
