Pogacar abandons Vuelta after crash while leading by 3:50

Five-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar abandoned the 2026 Vuelta a España on 29 August after going over his handlebars on stage eight, 32km from the finish in Xeraco. The Slovenian, 27, led the GC — the overall standings — by 3 minutes 50 seconds. UAE Team Emirates reported a concussion, a displaced left collarbone fracture and a stable C7 vertebra fracture. Collarbone surgery was delayed under concussion protocols.
