King Haakon VIII gives first address as Norway's monarch, mourning King Harald V

King Haakon VIII delivered his first speech as Norway's monarch on 29 August 2026, a memorial address broadcast at 19:00 for his father King Harald V, who died at Rikshospitalet, Oslo, at 06:35 on 28 August, aged 89. Harald had been hospitalised since 17 August with hemolytic anemia, the Royal Court stated. A state funeral has not been announced.
